Safety & Security
We understand that safety and security is an important concern for all of our guests. As a result, we have implemented a number of provisions and protections to provide security and peace of mind. Our property and each of the villas have solid security. This page contains information on safety and security in our area including staff on site, secure access, the property, our location, medical services, emergency services and water safety. Staff On Site
Our trained manager is on site most days and is always available by phone. We have a person in the office each morning Monday through Friday. She is fluently tri-lingual and able to assist. Five days of each week, our gardener is also on site. Chico is primarilly unilingual Spanish but understands a significant amount of English, even if he is reluctant to speak English. He is especially adept at dealing with any unwelcome critters that might wander by. Our housekeeper will be by your unit every two days to clean.
Secure Access
During the evening, the main gate is locked. The key to the main gate is kept in a lock-box near the gate. You will be provided with a code for the lock box here as part of your confirmation material provided by our reservations agent. After you lock your unit, please return the key to the lock-box when you exit. Each villa has a thick, solid wooden door which you can lock. The key for your villa is kept in another lock-box just outside your unit. Again, the code for this lock-box will be provided to you as part of your reservation information. After you lock the main gate, please return the key to the lock-box when you exit. In addition, each villa entrance has an outer door that is constructed of thick wrought iron and this also can be locked. You will be provided with keys to these doors for your unit.Property Security
The entire property is fully fenced with barbed wire hidden in the hedge that covers the fencing. All of the windows in each unit are protected with wrought iron grates (attractive, but also protective). Each of our villas is equipped with a small safe where you can store any valuables. We recommend that you keep your cash, valuables and passports here during your stay.We do recommend that you lock your vehicle and that you lock your villa when you leave. Keep your passport and valuables in the safe provided in your villa.
Location
We are located in a well populated area of the project but not on the main thoroughfare. This means that we are not isolated but neither are we subject to incessant traffic noise. Subdivision security officers patrol the area regularly. We have phone and fax access. There are several restaurants and small businesses within a couple of blocks. The nearby town of Nosara has its own doctor, police force of five officers and two fully-equipped ambulances. The local airport is only about 5 miles away. Finally, the town of Nicoya which has a full urgent care hospital and pharmacy, is only about a one hour drive by car.
Medical Services
The town doctor has a clinic office in Nosara and lives in our subdivision. She was trained in the United States, speaks fluent English and takes emergency calls when needed.Another doctor is located in our subdivision just across the street from Cafe de Paris. For sure, a good place to get a few stitches if needed.
The nearby town of Nicoya (about 1 hour away) has a full-fledged acute care hospital, complete with emergency service and a pharmacy. Most residents can report good service from this facility. The capital city of San Jose (about 5 hours away by road) boasts several large hospitals and also has a reputation for high quality plastic surgery services. Closer to home, we maintain a First Aid kit available in the office.
We have a local pharmacy located about two block away just around the corner across from the small strip mall. The pharmacy can provide most common pharmaceuticals but if you have any special requirements, you should plan on bringing your own supply.
Emergency Services
In recent years we have been fortunate to have a full 911 service implemented in the Nicoya district. They will dispatch fire, police or ambulance service 24 hours per day with one simple phone call. Please first identify the nature of the emergency (i.e., fire, police or medical) if you have to make a call. Secondly, you will need to identify your location. The subdivision is normally referred to as Bocas de Nosara or Playa Guiones. Our facility is called Villas Canadiense but local directions are often in reference to other locations. We are just down the road from Giardino Tropicale which is on the main road where an emergency vehicle would most likely turn to reach our site.Water Safety
The waters of Playa Guiones are safe for swimming and surfing. There are no significant riptides in the bay but there are no lifequards on duty. When traveling to other areas to swim or surf, please check with the local experts to get an idea of the local conditions.
